FELLOWS

The Learning by Doing project incorporates a fellows program intended to nurture long-term mutually beneficial relationships between the project, external experts, and students in the participant countries.

SENIOR FELLOWS

Senior fellows are external experts who are participating in the project in the short or long term.  Senior fellows may come from a range of traditions or institutions, including civil society, the private sector or academia.  Senior fellows will be invited to participate in multiple ways, depending on the type of expertise, project needs, and the Fellow’s interests.  For example, Fellow may:

  • Assist in shaping project activities, including workshops or other activities
  • Contribute to project documents, including blogs, reports, or other documentation
  • Design and implement research projects in conjunction with the LbD teams
  • Provide mentorship to the Student Fellows either through direct mentoring or through participation in Fellow’s seminars

GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT FELLOWS

The graduate and undergraduate student fellows program is designed to provide students with opportunities for hands-on professional experience in supporting, evaluating, and communicating learning for Climate Action as an investment in the longer-term human capacity equipped for addressing the challenges of climate change.

Each student fellow is appointed for one or more semesters, and will be directly supervised by one of the core members of the Learning by Doing Team (including National teams).  Each student Fellow will be required to participate in a quarterly Fellows seminar designed to create a network of fellows.  Alumni will also be invited to participate.  The terms and conditions for the graduate and undergraduate fellows are below:

GRADUATE FELLOWS:

Learning by Doing fellowships are designed to provide graduate students with opportunities for hands-on professional experience in supporting, evaluating, and communicating learning for Climate Action through participation in the Learning by Doing project.  Fellows will be supervised by faculty affiliated with the Learning by Doing project. The terms and conditions of the Learning by Doing graduate fellowships are as follows:

  • Fellows are appointed for a period of 4-8 months (one or more semesters and/or a summer session)
  • Fellows are expected to participate in quarterly Fellows seminars and are encouraged to participate in wider project meetings when invited
  • Fellows are expected to connect a portion of their graduate research to the core themes of the Learning by Doing project 
  • Fellows are encouraged to share information about and/or participate in communications processes within the project
  • Upon completion, Fellows are required to present their research at a Learning by Doing Fellows seminar

UNDERGRADUATE FELLOWS:

Learning by Doing fellowships are designed to provide undergraduate graduate students with opportunities for hands-on professional experience in supporting, evaluating, and communicating learning for Climate Action through participation in the Learning by Doing project.  Fellows will be supervised by faculty affiliated with the Learning by Doing project.  The terms and conditions of the Learning by Doing undergraduate fellowships are as follows:

  • Fellows are appointed for a period of 4-8 months (one semester or a summer session)
  • Fellows are expected to participate in a bi-monthly Fellows seminar and are encouraged to participate in wider project meetings when invited
  • Fellows are encouraged to share information about and/or participate in communications processes within the project
  • Fellows are required to design a small project (such as could fit within a class) on core themes of the Learning by Doing project and to produce a poster or other representation that can be shared by the project
  • Upon completion Fellows are required to make a short presentation at a Learning by Doing Fellows seminar
